Curaçao
Destination Weddings

A UNESCO-listed Dutch-Caribbean capital, a dry and breezy climate south of the main hurricane track, and nonstop flights from six U.S. cities. Here’s everything you need to plan a wedding week on Curaçao.

Why Curaçao

A Dutch-Caribbean
Wedding Destination

Curaçao sits in the southern Caribbean, about 40 miles off the coast of Venezuela, and carries nearly four centuries of Dutch, African, Latin American, and Caribbean history in its architecture, food, and language. Its capital, Willemstad, was founded as a Dutch trading port in 1634, and its pastel waterfront and historic harbor districts have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. The historic center is a short drive from the wedding resort, so a walk through the old city fits easily into the week.

The climate is semi-arid. Average temperatures hold around 82°F year-round, trade winds blow steadily from the east, and the island lies south of the main Atlantic hurricane track. Most rain arrives between October and December, usually as short showers that pass quickly. For couples planning an outdoor ceremony, the weather is consistent from month to month, and wind is the main variable to plan around.

Guests hear Papiamentu, Dutch, English, and Spanish in the same afternoon, and U.S. dollars are accepted throughout the tourist areas. Nonstop flights run from Miami, Charlotte, Atlanta, New York, Newark, and seasonally from Chicago, with Miami guests landing in a little over three hours. The island is compact enough that every beach, cave, and national park is within a day trip of the wedding resort.

The 10kWedding Advantage

We work directly with the wedding and group sales teams across the Hyatt Inclusive Collection, including Dreams Curaçao. That means negotiated room block terms, accurate venue details, and an advocate who knows this island’s legal paperwork, flight patterns, and festival calendar before your date is set. Our planning services are always free to couples.

Why Couples Choose Curaçao

What Makes a Curaçao
Wedding Work

🌬️

Weather You Can Plan Around

Curaçao gets roughly 18 to 22 inches of rain a year, most of it in short bursts between October and December. The rest of the year runs dry and warm, with trade winds that keep afternoons comfortable for guests in suits and long dresses. Because the island sits south of the main hurricane track, couples can consider dates across the calendar, including late summer and early fall.

🏛️

Willemstad as a Photo Backdrop

The Handelskade waterfront in Punda, the Queen Emma pontoon bridge that swings open for passing ships, the lanes of Otrobanda, and the restored merchant houses of Scharloo and Pietermaai give photographers a full city of color to work with. A portrait session downtown adds a city setting to a wedding album otherwise built around the beach.

🏖️

Coves and Beach Clubs

The island’s swimmable beaches line its calm southern and western coast. Grote Knip, Playa Lagun, Cas Abao, and Playa Porto Mari are small, cliff-framed coves with clear water and sea turtles close to shore. On the southeast side, Jan Thiel and Mambo Beach offer beach clubs with loungers, music, and sunset bars for a welcome party or day-after gathering.

🐢

Diving and Snorkeling From Shore

The Curaçao Underwater Park has protected the southern reef since 1983, and the island counts more than 60 dive sites, many reachable straight from the beach. The Tugboat wreck at Caracasbaai sits in about 15 feet of water, close enough for snorkelers. Certified divers in your group can log reef dives most mornings without a long boat ride.

🍹

Food, Drink, and Island Culture

Blue Curaçao liqueur is still made at Landhuis Chobolobo, a 19th-century country house in Willemstad, from the peel of the laraha orange that grows only on this island. Tours and cocktail workshops make an easy group outing. Local food runs from truk’i pan roadside stands to chef-led restaurants in Pietermaai, and Papiamentu phrases tend to work their way into wedding toasts by the end of the week.

🦩

A Full Week for Your Guests

Guests can tour the limestone Hato Caves, watch waves crash into the north-coast inlets at Shete Boka National Park, or climb Christoffelberg, the island’s highest point, early in the morning. Flamingos gather at the Jan Kok salt pans and in the new Seru Largu National Park. A catamaran day trip to uninhabited Klein Curaçao, with its lighthouse and white-sand beach, rounds out the itinerary.

Planning Essentials

What to Know Before You Book

🌤️

Weather & Best Timing

January through June is the driest stretch of the year, with March through June receiving the least rain. Trade winds are strongest early in the year, so plan secured décor, pinned florals, and a veil that can handle a breeze. September is the warmest and calmest month and typically the quietest for room availability. The short rainy season runs October through December, with showers that usually pass within the hour.

📋

Legal Ceremonies

A legal marriage on Curaçao is possible for non-residents but involves real lead time. Couples submit a signed written request to the Civil Registry at least three months before the date, along with recent, apostilled documents, and both partners report to the registry in person several days before the ceremony. A ceremony at the resort requires six witnesses. Most U.S. couples complete the legal marriage at home and hold a symbolic ceremony on the island, which removes the paperwork entirely.

✈️

Getting Your Guests There

Curaçao International Airport (CUR) receives nonstop service from Miami, Charlotte, Atlanta, New York (JFK), Newark, and seasonally Chicago, plus Toronto and Montréal. Miami flights take a little over three hours; Northeast flights run four and a half to five. U.S. guests need a passport valid for the length of their stay and a free Digital Immigration Card, completed online within seven days of departure. Transfers to the Piscadera Bay resort area take about 15 minutes.

📅

How Early to Book

Curaçao has a limited number of all-inclusive wedding resorts, so peak-season dates from mid-December through April fill quickly. Booking 12 to 18 months out gives you the strongest choice of dates and room block terms. Check your date against Carnival in February, when parades close streets in Willemstad, and the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival in late August or early September, which is held on Piscadera Bay.
